Project Overview
Think Worksafe Ltd. was engaged by Domis Construction to undertake the installation and testing of safety handrails at the Glassworks project in Manchester. This high-rise development required a robust fall protection solution to ensure compliance with safety regulations and to provide secure edge protection for operatives working on the roof and upper levels.
The scope of works included the installation of WeightAngel™ safety systems, anchor testing, and the completion of certification for handrail systems across multiple roof levels. Given the scale and height of the structure, the project required specialist expertise in high-level safety systems and a meticulous approach to ensure both compliance and client satisfaction.
The works were planned and completed over a three-day period, with Think Worksafe Ltd. deploying a dedicated specialist to deliver the project efficiently and to the highest standards.
- Day 1 (28/07/2025):
- Installation of WeightAngel™ system on Level 6 green roof and top roof at Level 16.
- System components secured and prepared for testing.
- Documentation and preliminary checks carried out.
- Day 2 (29/07/2025):
- Access gained to Level 5 roof via Level 6 window.
- Full system installed, tested, and tagged.
- Photographs taken for quality assurance and client records.
- Client representative (Tommy) attended site and confirmed satisfaction with progress.
- Day 3 (30/07/2025):
- Works completed on the main roof at Level 17.
- Handrails installed and final inspection undertaken.
- All areas cleared, tidied, and signed off.
- Photos captured for final reporting and handover.
Throughout the project, our operative, Tommy Dowley, ensured all works were conducted safely and in line with industry best practices.
Technical Details & Testing
A critical aspect of the project was the pull testing of anchors to verify installation integrity. Using a Hydrajaws M2000 digital pull tester, anchors were tested to ensure they met required load ratings. The results confirmed that all fixings achieved the specified performance standards.
This testing process provided documented assurance to the client that the system was fully compliant with safety regulations. Test tags were attached to the systems, ensuring traceability for future inspections.
Challenges & Solutions
Working at height on a live construction site presented typical challenges such as weather conditions, access logistics, and the coordination of works alongside other trades. Think Worksafe Ltd. addressed these by:
